Mission Statement
In promoting the mission statement of the Pastoral Care Department of Baptist Health System we are dedicated to maintaining quality Clinical Pastoral Education through:
- Providing a high quality educational program that challenges the CPE students and other Pastoral Care Staff to develop the compassion and competence needed to offer quality pastoral care.
- Providing high quality family and faith-centered pastoral care for the patients, families and staff of Baptist Health System that strives to assist individuals in accessing their spiritual resources.
- Utilizing the overall learning environment within Baptist Health System and the community of San Antonio to provide the CPE student with as broad and integrated an education as possible, assisting an integration of personal growth opportunities, spiritual development and professional identity.
- Capitalizing on the rich resources within the Department of Pastoral Care to assist professional functioning as well as providing a mentoring environment to nurture the spiritual growth of students.
- Providing pastoral care within the CPE model on a holistic, interfaith basis with high regard placed on respect and sensitivity for the unique faith perspective and cultural/ethnic tradition of each individual and family.
- Being advocates and colleagues with clergy and congregations within our ministry area in their concern for excellent health care of the persons within Baptist Health System and the larger community.
- Utilizing a CPE Professional Consultation Committee to provide for the maintenance and creative enhancement of a quality CPE program.
- Establishing research projects to identify more clearly the unique pastoral care needs of the patients/families, students, staff, and departments.
- Securing and maintaining the foundation for this ministry through an ACPE accredited Clinical Pastoral Education program.
